Understanding your child's MAP test scores can help you monitor your child’s academic progress and identify areas where they may need additional practice or support.
What is the MAP Test?
The MAP test is a computerized, multiple choice, adaptive assessment that measures your child's academic performance in Reading, Math, and Language Usage. The test adapts to your child's skill level by adjusting the difficulty of questions based on their responses. This allows teachers to get an accurate measure of what your child knows and what they are ready to learn next.

RIT Score
Your child's MAP score is reported as a blue RIT score that reflects your child’s academic knowledge, skills, and abilities. The yellow score reports the average level of American children in the same age group. Sometimes there is an orange score, which should indicate the scores of other children in this area. The light blue score on the end is your child's predicted score for the next test.

Progress & Projection
By comparing your child's scores from different testing periods, you can see how your child is progressing throughout the school year. We recommend that you compare alternating test scores rather than consecutive scores. We all have bad days. Being tired, hungry or distracted on a test can have a significant impact on their test scores.

Percentile
In the far right of the box you will see a percentile rank. This number indicates how your child’s performance compares to that of other students in the same grade. For example, if your child is in the 38th percentile, they performed better than, or the same as, 38% of students in their grade.

Here you can see how your child performed in the test by each 'math topic'. This indicates the specific areas where your child may need extra practice or extra tuition.

What Should I Do with This Information?
If your child’s score has increased since the last test, it shows academic growth. Celebrate this progress with your child and encourage their continued effort. If your child is below the expected level in certain areas, consider additional practice at home or discuss with us how we can support their learning.
