1. Start reading with your child as soon as possible in Thai or English. The younger they are the easier it will be.

2. Read in a quiet place. Switch TVs, phones & iPads off.

3. Make reading time a regular occasion. It could be after school every day, just before bed or on weekend mornings.

4. Make ‘reading time’ a special time in a comfortable place. Maybe with a milkshake or a hot chocolate. 

5. Leave books lying around the house and in the car.

6. Young children will want to hear their favourite picture books read again and again.

7. Try dressing up like a character from a book.

8. For longer books, try taking it in turns to read a page each. E.g. a parent can read the odd numbered pages, and the child can read the even numbered pages.

9. Talk about the story after you finish the book. Example questions:

• Which characters do you like/dislike? Why?

• Why do you think the characters behaved like they did?

• Does this story relate to experiences and events in your life?

• What would you have done if you were the character in that story?

10. Don’t make your child read books that are too difficult. It could put them, off reading.

1. ควรเริ่มอ่านหนังสือภาษาไทยหรือภาษาอังกฤษกับลูกโดยเร็วที่สุด ยิ่งลูกอายุน้อยก็จะยิ่งง่ายขึ้น

2. ควรอ่านในสถานที่เงียบ  และควรปิดทีวี โทรศัพท์ และ iPad ทั้งหมด

3. ควรอ่านหนังสือให้เป็นกิจวัตร เช่น ทุกวันหลังเลิกเรียน ก่อนนอน หรือเช้าวันหยุดสุดสัปดาห์

4. ควรทำให้ช่วงเวลาที่อ่านหนังสือ ให้มีความพิเศษและรู้สึกสบายขึ้น เช่น การดื่มนมหรือช็อคโกแลตร้อนระหว่างการอ่าน

5. ควรเก็บหนังสือไว้ตามห้องต่างๆ ของในบ้านและในรถ

6. เด็กเล็กจะชอบฟังหนังสือภาพเล่มโปรดอ่านซ้ำแล้วซ้ำอีก ฉะนั้นควรอ่านให้ลูกฟังซ้ำๆ

7. ให้ลูกได้ทดลองแต่งตัวเหมือนตัวละครจากในหนังสือเล่น

8. สำหรับหนังสือเรื่องยาว ให้ลองผลัดกันอ่านทีละหน้า เช่น. ผู้ปกครองอาจจะอ่านหน้าเลขคี่ และให้ลูกอ่านหน้าเลขคู่

9. หลังจากที่อ่านหนังสือจบ ให้พูดคุยเกี่ยวกับเนื้อหา และตั้งคำถาม เช่น

ชอบ/ไม่ชอบตัวละครตัวไหน? ทำไม?

ทำไมถึงคิดว่าตัวละครมีพฤติกรรมหรือแสดงออกเช่นนั้น?

เคยเผชิญกับประสบการณ์หรือเหตุการณ์แบบนี้หรือไม่?

ถ้าเป็นตัวละครในเรื่องจะทำอย่างไร?

10. ไม่ควรให้ลูกอ่านหนังสือที่ยากเกินไป เพราะอาจจะทำให้เขาไม่อยากที่จะอ่านหนังสืออีกเลย
